Shaydanay Urbani
Major: Environmental Studies, Middle Eastern & North African Studies
Email: shaydanay@ucla.edu

Shaydanay first joined the student food movement when she founded Slow Food @ UCLA with the dream of connecting campus food culture to community and the environment. She is also the Internal Director of the sustainability division of student government at UCLA, B Green Consulting, and cofounder of The Green Microfinance Project, which funds entrepreneurs in emerging economies through a student-led recycling program. Shaydanay is constantly inspired by both the power of shared purpose and the simple beauty of people coming together to share a meal. When she’s not out riding her bicycle, swing dancing, or playing jazz piano, her kitchen is always open to the hungry wanderers of the planet.

Lehren Mac Kay (person on the right)
Major: Psychology
Minor: Public Policy
Email: Lehren.Mackay@gmail.com

Lehren became involved with the student food movement because of her interest in the cooperative business model that she learned in her Public Policy course at UCLA. After going to the CoFED retreat she because extremely excited about the possibility of opening a student-run food cafe/grocery store. Lehren is currently President of UCLA Active Minds, an organization that is working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses. She is also External Vice President of B Green Consulting, where she started the first Sustainable Business Case Competition at UCLA, and Research Assistant at the Fox Uncertainty Lab at the Anderson School of Business. Lehren is inspired by giving students a voice on campus and creating a community atmosphere that fosters awareness, education and advocacy groups on college campuses. When she’s not reading scientific journals or eating amazing food, Lehren enjoys discussing neuroscience (especially discussing the neuroscience of short-term & long-term memories).
