Vassar College

At the age of six I chose to become a vegetarian and I have always had concern for animal rights and the environment.  This has set me onto a path in search of healthy, sustainable foods for the rest of my life and has been something I feel the need to share with other students in the same situation.  Although I am currently studying urban theory and design, I hope to find a balance between environment, agriculture, and urban and find ways to be self-sufficient & co-operative in life.  I wanted to start the food co-op at Vassar to provide a space for students to express their creativity, explore their food systems, business & community, and most importantly to get excited about “real” food.

Hi! My name is Kacey and I’m very excited about Vassar’s food co-op! I grew up in Hawaii, where I developed a love for animals, adventuring outdoors, gardening, and fresh, local food. A few years ago I became vegan as I began to consider how food plays such a vital role in issues pertaining to animal rights, the environment, health, and social justice. Building cooperative, sustainable communities that promote ethical lifestyles, environmental stewardship, and real food is at the core of my goals, so I’m thrilled to be part of this!
